A real-time dynamic simulation of the Jinxi chemical VCM plant has been developed, and the model covers ethylene oxy-chlorination section and cracking section, as well as quench and distillation section. The most dominating equipment of a VCM plant is the huge cracker furnace. The ethylene oxy-chlorination reactor model has been simplified as CSTR models in series. Between GSTR models, only the solid phase is partly returned. This model successfully simulates the axial distribution of the concentrations of reaction components and the reaction temperature of a commercial ethylene oxy-chlorination reactor.Based on the analysis of the structure and the characteristic of the cracker, a mathematical model has been developed. On the model some different operational conditions are analyzed. The result shows that a suitable conversion is relevant to cracking temperature and pressure and the load of cracker, and the optimization temperature control meaning for the industrious cracker has been given. The simulation system here can be used for operator training and verification of proposed control strategies and operating procedures. Also, the system has lead to other additional benefits like testing of new control strategies, and training of personnel, prior to implementation on the plant. Further more, the very model can be used in the field of optimization, for using mechanism model.
