Asparagus not only has high economic and nutritional value, but also has it biological characteristic of adapting to the ecosystem of wind-sandy wasteland. On the basis of fully investigating the ecological characteristic of wind-sandy wasteland in southern China, the agroforestry system was adopted in this experiment. A mix of tree species was planted as windbreaks around the experiment field to prevent the site from exposure to wind. Vetiver grasses were planted in the inner side of the windbreaks and along the roads of each plot for the purpose of water and soil conservation. At the same time asparagus were planted as the pioneer plant to control and improve wind-sandy wasteland in southern China. There were 3 varieties of asparagus selected and used for the trial because they were suitable for the condition of soil and climate in wind-sandy wasteland in southern China. In the end, an efficient pattern of non-pollution production of asparagus in wind-sandy wasteland had scientifically been set up. From physical and chemical properties of soil, wind velocity of field and cover rate, the ecological benefit of establishing asparagus in wind-sandy wasteland had been appraised respectively. The result of study showed: after planting asparagus, the structure and capacity of moisture retention of wind-sandy soil was significantly improved; Soil fertility was enhanced with the improvement of the improvement of soil property and structure; the augmentation of vegetative communities and cover rate was achieved in accordance with the development of high canopy density of asparagus plants; wind velocity between rows was only 46.8% of speed in control as well. It demonstrated that asparagus could be used as a pioneer plant made for the rehabilitation of soil fertility and environmental improvement of wind-sandy wasteland in southern China in term of ecological benefit as well as economic benefit.A scientific and rational comprehensive ecological pattern of "the asparagus and forest-grass" was put forward to control and improve wind-sandy wasteland in southern China in this research. The species of tree and grass used in this pattern can be different in different areas. This technology and pattern can be transplanted to apply in other region after they are integrated again, thus it will enrich and develop this ecological pattern.
