The integrated active sludge system with five tanks for denitrification and phosphorus removal was an intellective wastewater treatment technique invented by Southeast University. The five quadrate tanks constituted the reactor of the technique. To realize good denitrification and phosphorus removal, anaerobic, anoxic, aerobic and settling processes were formed in different time and space by operation mode control and influent and effluent position alternation. By this way the functions of A2/O process were achieved without sludge and MLSS recirculation. The characteristics of denitrification and phosphorus removal in the integrated system with five tanks were studied by pilot scale experiments and optimal operational parameters were found out. By reactors' track, the elementary kinetics of denitrification and phosphorus removal was also explained. This research studied the treatment of two kinds of raw wastewater: municipal wastewater with large magnitude of industrial wastewater (about 70%) and that with low magnitude of industrial wastewater (about 30%).1. Denitrification and phosphorus removal research to Lihua municipal wastewater by integrated system with five tanks The signal ending point of denitrification was found in virtue of the track of phosphorus release in anaerobic tank. The phenomenon of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification was found in No.1 tank, No.2 tank and No.3 tank in the track experiments to every tanks. This maybe caused by microcosmic anaerobic environment or aerobic denitrifier. The optimal cyclic process was achieved by orthogonal test and synthetical analysis, i.e., 2h for phase 1 and 5,0.5h for phase 2 and 6,1h for phase 4 and 8.2. Denitrification and phosphorus removal research to Chengbei municipal wastewater by integrated system with five tanksOptimal HRT of 11h and optimal SRT of 14d were decided by experiments.
