The article reviewed the measurement of the flow rate for crude oil, and developed a new apparatus for the measurement of the flow rate.In the laboratory equipment, the influences of primary parts for gravity sedimentation including entrance part, conglomeration part, and packings part on separation effect were studied. The results indicated that hydrocyclone could separate gas and liquid efficiently. The packings part could improve flow pattern of equipment, and reduce the requirements for steady flow of entrance part, making hydrocyclone as a good entrance part.In the pilot-scale equipment, the influences of residential time, thickness of oil layer, thickness of the packings and temperature on separation effect were investigated, and the appropriate control strategies were proposed.In the end, the process for the industrial equipment and its control strategies were determined to measure the flow rate of the crude oil, and the separation effect for oil, gas and water was studied.
