People more and more pay attention to the slapper detonator which is a late model initiation detonator of high safety and reliability. But flyer diameter used to study slapper detonator is between 4 and 15mm, and the study on small flyer is very little. Otherwise, with the development of high safety and less sensitive ammunition, Fined-grained explosive increase put to use. So we established a set of small flyer sensitivity to initiation experimental device which flyer diameter is 1mm in our laboratory to study the shock initiating characters of fined-grained explosives. The paper mainly is a serial of research works to the initiation system. Firstly there is simply analysis to the system, including the structure and the operating principle of the small flyer initiation system, and the determination of crucial parameter and initiation criterion, and so on. On this bases, there is emphasis on the influence of flyer formation to the whole initiation process in theories and experiment. It is very important instruct value to study the flyer shock initiation mechanism. The experimental results indicated the small flyer initiation system authenticity can generate flyer., and the system initiation energy on the flyer existence condition obviously higher than on the flyer nonexistence. The expressing methods of the small flyer sensitivity to initiation of explosives are presented, which are the critical initiation energy, the critical flyer velocity, the critical initiation voltage and the critical exploding current density. The calculation formula of the flyer critical initiation energy is deduced in detail. It not only provided a expressing method for the flyer sensitivity to initiation of explosives, but also provided evidence for the heterogeneous explosive initiation criteria on any extent on the paper. Otherwise, the small flyer sensitivity to initiation of different density, and different species fined-grained explosives are assed on experiment. It is the bases of the study of the flyer initiation performance to more fined-grained explosives.
