Flyer initiation ability is evaluated by means of energy characterizing method on the basis of flyer initiation sensitivity device in the laboratory in the paper. And after theoretically calculating, utilizing gross energy in the system subtracting energy every section consuming flyer energy can be calculated finally. Further study flyer velocity can be quantitatively calculated. Flyer velocity is comparable by this way, by VISAR measuring and Gurny Model calculating. So it can provide a new way for attributing flyer initiation ability under the premise of there being difficulty in measuring pea sure flyer impulsing explosive.Using flyer velocity gained from energy characterizing method, definite parameters of flyer and explosive, deterministic parameters of initiation system critical initiation energy to flyer of explosive can be theoretically calculated. Associating with critical initiation voltage of explosive experiment measuring comparisons and evaluations can be conducted for flyer sensitivity of explosive. The paper conducts flyer sensitivity testing of 3 explosives and gains some good conclusions.
