NC machine tools are a high newly technology in which computer, automatic control, automatic detecting and precision parts are all used. At present, CNC technology is developing in the direction of economy, good efficiency, high accuracy and automatization. It is a strategy to develop economic CNC that is suitable for our country. The paper studies the economic CNC lathe system based on this.This paper puts forward a solution of economic CNC lathe system. At first, it discusses the system structure and design method of general economic CNC system. Then it makes a detailed description of the hardware and software structure and control method based on MSP430F149 according to working environment, processing characteristics and requirements of performance.The hardware architecture of the economic CNC lathe system is studied mainly based on MSP430F149 which includes one primary module and other peripheral modules, such as power management, crystal, keyboard, stepping motor driver, LCD, encoder, hand pulse generator, serial communication, I/O control modules, and so on. The main module is used because of its low power dissipation, abundant resources, swiftness and convenience. Stepping motors are adopted with open loop system.There is a friendly interface for LCD module with heavy capacity and special keyboard. Further more, LCD module has its own controller and can lighten the burden of the primary module. NC programs can be transmitted from PC to NC lathe system through serial communication so as to raise efficiency.The control algorithm and the software architecture of the economic CNC lathe system based on MSP430F149 are also studied in thesis. The front and back end system is adopted to meet the demand of real-time characteristic and multi-task management. During the foreground program, many real-time interrupt functions are mentioned, including keyboard control, linear and arc interpolations method with searching minimum path error and serial communication. During the background program, some data processing functions are studied, such as decode, mistake diagnosing, cutter compensation, speed control, LCD display, and so on.The economic CNC lathe system based on the scheme can absolutely meet the demand with its low costs, dependability, friendly display interface and convenience.
