At present, CNC technology is developing in the direction of economy, good efficiency, high accuracy and automatization. It is a strategy to develop economic CNC in our country. In the other hand, CNC system relates to various fields, the study on it will accelerate the development of related technology. Therefore, the research of CNC system has great theoretical study and practical application value. The paper discusses the structure and design method of economic lathe system. According to the working environment, processing characteristics and requirements of performance,an open-coop lathe control system is studied and designed based on TMS320LF2407A and W78E516 , it uses stepping motors as the executing machine. In the hardware design part, the paper analyzes each CPU’s target, the design of the circuit to fulfill system’s function, including the communication module between these two CPU. Then, we studies the theory of lathe control, discusses the motion algorithm theories such as interpolation algorithm, acceleration/deceleration algorithm, analyzes the error occurred in the control processing and the method to reduce these errors using software methods and so on. In the software design part, the paper expatiates how DSP realized the motion control, how to controls stepping motor’s speed and position and a friend human-machine interface which is realized by MCU. The designer realizes a USB interface and makes a menu for people to operate the system conveniently. At last, we test the system according the customs’requirement to validate the stability and the validity of system’s diagnosing function. The controller has been roughly finished, and the feasibility of its hardware and software has been tested through practical debug. The controller absolutely meets the demand with its low costs, dependability, friendly display interface and convenience. But there is still a long way for this controller to become a real product using in the industry field. We believe the works we have done in the process has built a solid foundation which will facilitates the real implementation in the future.
