3D visual structure model of coal mine shows mine bed wave, seam quality and thickness and distribution, pictures complex structures such as faults and folds, simplifies the complex geological features, provides the high-efficient and quick study methods for mine investigation and prospecting, exploration, and dynamic monitoring, and finally services for decision-makers and supervisors in geological exploration. But there are some elusively essential problems for GIS applied in mine field. Main problem is that appropriate solutions to underground 3D geological modeling are not found. For example, current GIS software establishes Triangulated Irregular Networks (TIN) with mathematic drill interpolation, ignoring the sudden changes in the research area such as normal faults, reverse faults, normal faults cross, reverse faults cross and cross between normal faults and reverse faults. In this paper the thesis introduces TIN&GIS integration model, its structure and topological relation, and the method and gist of building this model automatically. The method, which judges the boundary areas as positive or negative, can solves the problems that are caused by faults or the different elevation points with the same coordination during the triangulated networks building. On the basis of data model above-mentioned, for the purpose of practical work, selecting 3D graphics library OpenGL as development tool, The thesis designs data structure, system function and friendly interface for a small mine 3D visualization system. The thesis shows several key techniques in 3D visualization system development, which include the arithmetic, flow charts and programming codes for some key functions, such as different display modes, interactive roving and flying, 3D information query, interactive stratum cutting and section plane display and so on. In the end, the exploration data about one Open Pit of Xiandewang coal mine are taken as an example to test the function, validity, security, practicality and operability of the 3D visualization system.
