Carbon monoxide is the leading reason for a smoker to have diseases in heart and head blood vessels and to get smoke drunk. And it's also a healthy danger for a pregnant woman who smokes or passively smokes. On the other hand, it is very important and necessary to research how to eliminate carbon monoxide in cigarette smoke also with the pressure from international. If there is no better way to control carbon monoxide under 10mg per cigarette which is now mostly among 10mg and 16mg per cigarette in our country, it will be a huge obstacle or technical rampart for our cigarette products to drive into international markets.Chitosan metal complex exists rigidity structure, in which the metal ion's track d is still unsaturated and is able to attach such things by coordinate bonds as CO etc. So it is possible that chitosan metal complex may have a great potential of being used as a CO sorbent in theory. In this paper, the adsorption capability of chitosan metal complex to adsorb CO was validated by a simulated experiment. And the application feasibility in cigarettes was superficially attempted. Results show that it had a better adsorption capability as the chitosan metal complex had a higher metal ion content and as its granularity about at 70 mu and the system temperature was around at 55 °C. Chitosan metal complex could efficiently eliminate the CO content in the cigarette mainstream smoke. The chitosan inferior iron ion complex had the especially good adsorption effect, which was reached to about 2.0mg per cigarette (or CO reduced 12.6 percent), simultaneously the selectivity was nice with little effect on the chemical quality index like nicotine, water, etc. The sense quality tests turned out that it had been improved in sense quality with irritation and impurity reduced, harmony increased and with luster, aroma and aftertaste stable in cigarette smoke. But which still needs to be further studied is the real mechanism of chitosan metal complex adsorbing CO and the technics of chitosan metal complex applied in cigarette filter tip.
