The relation between chemistry ingredient of tobacco and carbon monoxide incigarette mainstream smoke was discussed by method of mathematics statistical, theresult showed: The content of carbon monoxide in mainstream smoke was related tothe content of the component comprise of nitrogen;The content of carbon monoxidein mainstream smoke was coincident with the content of cigarette tar, reducing thecontent of cigarette tar was help to decrease that of carbon monoxide, potassiumcarbonate as additive for cigarette could reduce the content of carbon monoxide inmainstream smoke obviously.Potassium carbonate as additive for cigarette would effect the quality for smoke,contrastive assess result showed: cigarette strength, thrill and ill flavor increasingcaused by potassium carbonate as additive. Through the analysis of ingredient ofmainstream smoke, the result showed: potassium carbonate as additive increase theratio of nicotine transforming to free nicotine;The additive increased the content ofhydroxybenzene in mainstream smoke;The additive caused the content of water inmainstream smoke reducing;And the additive caused the structure of decomposeproduct. The result of thermal analysis showed that because it had changed the decomposetemperature and the route of decompose reaction of cut tobacco, potassium carbonateas additive for cigarette effected the burning condition of cigarette. That was whypotassium carbonate as additive for cigarette could reduce the content of carbonmonoxide in mainstream smoke.
