The present research and development of antibacterial material and palygorskite were summarized in this review article. Silver base inorganic antibacterial agent which is combined by inorganic compound and antibacterial metal ion is different from traditionary antibacterial agent and antibacterial metal or its compound. So with the characteristics of nontoxic, stabilization, safety and long effecting, it will become more and more popular. Palygorskite is a chain-layer magnesium-aluminum silicate, which was discovered in the 19th century. Compared with existing inorganic carrier such as zeolite, bentonite, some of the phosphate, adsorptive silica gel and glass, the palygorskite has better characteristics of absorbing silver ion, large relative surface area and disperse characteristics, but few attention has been paid on the adsorption mechanism of heavy metal ions to the mineral and kinetics of acid-dissolution of palygorskite.In this paper, palygorskite is used as carrier, upon with silver nanoparticals is loaded into the hole by the means of soak, and there comes the nano-composite antibacterial material.According to cross experiment and single factor experiment, the dissertation determines the best experiment technique condition of the reaction of palygorskite and silver nitrate. On the base of these best parameters, Ag-Palygorskite antibacterial material was prepared successful. By trans-mission electron microscopy (TEM), chemical analysis and XRD, the study on palygorskite and Ag-Palygorskite antibacterial material is carried out. The results show that, the silver in palygorskite crystal mainly occurs as ions and fine crystal, maybe some silver oxide.By the antibacterial experiment, the palygorskite and silver-polygersite antibacterial agents' antibacterial performance have been induced in detail. Ag-Palygorskite antibacterial material shows clearly antibacterical activity. Moreover, it shows the stability and ability to resist lighting, acid, alkali and heating.At last, the application field and foreground of palygorskite antibacterial material have been induced, a direction that palygorskite antibacterial material should be researched and developed in the future was suggested.The study on Ag-Palygorskite antibacterial material has more theoretical significance to application of palygorskite in environmental protection and preparation of inorganic antibacterial material. Also, it cans broad the exploitation prospect of palygorskite clay in our country.
