In this paper, the influence of every factor on the mechanical properties of vulcanized silicon rubber was investigated, such as vinyl content, molecular weight and its distribution of silicon rubber, the choice and pretreatment of fumed silica, and the choice of vulcanizing agent and co-vulcanizing agent. It was found that: (1) the vinyl content of silicon rubber should be 0.07-0.15%; (2) the molecular weight of silicon rubber should be larger than 700,000; (3) the surface area of fumed silica should be about 200m2/g; (4) DMBPH and hydrogen-containing silicon oil should be used as vulcanizing agent and co-vulcanizing agent, respectively.The shelf life of silicon rubber compound has reached at least one year. It has been successfully used as the sealing gasket in automobile motor. Its quality can compare with that of the same product made abroad.
