This paper reviews the synthesis, application and development of aromatic heterocyclic polymers, and brings forward the work we focused, including the synthesis of three polyamide containing bithiazole moieties, and its rare-earth metal complexes, the relationship between magnetic properties and polymer complexes structure.First of all, the monomer 2, 2'-diamino-4, 4'-bithiazole (DABT) was synthesized, and three novel polymers were prepared by the polycondensation of DABT and aliphatic dicarbonyl chloride. The rare-earth metal complexes of the polymers were prepared from polymers and ReCl3 in DMSO. The structures of polymer and complexes were characterized through IR spectra. The intrinsic viscosity of polymer was measured and the content of rare-earth metals was determined by complexometric titration. The TGA analysis showed that these polymers have good thermal properties. The preliminary magnetic properties of the complexes were investigated. We examined the magnetic properties of polymeric complexes containing Nd ions, the results showed that all the three polymeric complexes are ferromagnetic materials at low temperatures. And We notice that the relative saturation magnetization of PTA02-Nd3+ is far higher than that of PTA06-Nd3+ and PTA10-Nd3+, it can be easily explained that the Nd3+ ions coordinated to the PTA02 is much more than that of PTA06 and PTA10 duo to the bithiazole density of PTA02 is the highest. The study on the magnetic properties of polymeric complexes containing Pr ions reveals that PTA06-Pr3+ is not a ferromagnetic materials, maybe the magnetism derived from the Pr ions is too weak to compensate the diamagnetism of the polymer PTA06, considering its rare-earth metals content is the lowest, only 1.47%. In the case of PTA10-Pr3+, when we draw the %l-T curve, a hyperbola appears, it means that athigher temperatures, the magnetism derived from the Pr ions is too weak to compensate the diamagnetism of the polymer PTA10.
