The numerical simulation of casting solidification process is an important method, by which the casting quality and economic benefit of foundry product can be raised. In the present paper, based on the thorough analysis and research of the mathematical model for the flow field and temperature field, the filling and solidification process of aluminous hub was successfully simulated by using ANSYS software. The foundry defect and its position in the cast product could be predicted by the numerical simulation of the filling and solidification process, and the measure and check of the mould design and the selection of processing parameter was finished by ANSYS software. The main research work and conclusions are presented as follows.1. The numerical simulation of the filling and solidification process can reflect the actual condition of the casting, and can predict the possible foundry defect and its position in the cast product.2. Although the position of shrinkage porosity can't be directly shown in the numerical simulation because of no advisement of the feeding under a certain pressure and the loss of the criterion module of shrinkage porosity, there is no effect of the software defect on the simulation of the flow field and temperature field in the solidification process.3. The meaning that the thickness of the metal mould is enlarged excessively has not been proved by the numerical simulation, and the previous mould design should be amended according to the simulation results.4. The heat preservation coating of the sprue groove in low pressure die casting process is not more thick more good.5. It should that apply cooling to the place close to the hot parts. That is to say slot the mould for wind cooling or water cooling at the upside and the downside of the rim-and-spoke joint.
