This paper is an attempt to systematically develop theory of measuring straightness error with on-line measurement for outline error of processing roller in metallurgical enterprise. In the paper, the wide and deep research made on the measuring method and the mathematical models, on the computer emulation and the measuring error analysis, on the sample and the straightness error evaluation. Based on the result in the past, mathematical models of Frequency-Domain-Three-Points error separation with measuring straightness error is carried out, and so did computer imitation that prove theory to be confirmed. It is for the first that mixed-cardinal method of Fast Fourier Transform caculation is made, and then programe is designed in the paper. It is useful to apply Frequency is designed in the paper. It is useful to apply Frequency Domain error separation method to measure straightness error. And the error analysis caused by on-line error of cylinder outline is discussed in Franquency Domain error separation, therefore the basic method is given to a further approach to improve measurement accuracy. The method and the equivalent mathematical models are established and compute software is programmed.According to result of research on theory and imitation in the computer, we design on-line measurement system for straightness error of rollers outline, and development a imitated on-off circuit has improved a traditional way with only one probe to need in combination one measuring instrument, with only one probe and made three probes share one instrument and which is choose by computer control, therefore system is fit to be in practice. With this system, we measured imitative roller compared Time Domain to franquency Domain three points error separation in the machine tools. The result shows: it is a true to derive the mathematical modols. And it is available for the application of error separation technique to the on-line measurement to increasement accuracy. It is reliable to design and develop the measuring system by ourselves.
