Electrocoagulation is an evolving technology that is being effectively applied today for wastewater treatment, can be used to remove undesirable contaminants either by chemical reaction and precipitation or by causing colloidal materials to coalesce and then be moved by electrolytic flotation. The electrochemical system has proven to be able to cope with a variety of wasterwater. The objective of this review through a series of experiments is to bring the electrocoagulation equipment involved into perspective and to focus attention on those areas critically needing research. In this study, a series of experiments were conducted to investigate the effectiveness of electrocoagulation for treating electro-plating and rining and oil wastewater .The results may be useful in the future application .The electrocoagulation was applied for the treatment of plating wastewater. It was found that the chromium and nickel removal rates can reach100%, the cn removal rates were 99.8%, can achieve the national standards on wastewater discharge. The electrocoagulation was applied for the treatment of rining wastewater. It was found that the color removal rates can reach100% and COD removal rates is 49%~76%. When treated the wastewater by electrocoagulation , the COD reduced from 248 to 12 .Collected and filtered the sample and pump the air into the water , after 8 hours , the COD reduced from 120 to 70 .the increasing of COD removal rate will provied favourable conditions for the nexy biochemistry treatment. The electrocoagulation was applied for the treatment of 3 oil field sewage. It was found that the oil and SS removal rates of oil field refinery sewage were respectively 96% and 97%, the turbidity and COD removal ratesof dirll seswage were respectively 96.8% and 97.5%, and the turbidity and oil removal rates of oil recovery sewage were respectively 96.1% and 100%. All the above indicators are far below the nationalcomprehensive standards on wastewater discharge.Although the electrocoaglation mechanism resembles chemical coaglation in that the cationic species are responsible for the neutralization of surface charges, the choracteristics of the electrocoagulated floc differ dramatically from those generated by chemical coagulation .An electrocoagulated floc tends to contain less bound water .is more shear resistant , and is more readily filterable. When compared with chemical coagulation , electrocoagulation provided approximately 83% less sludge volume and a 76% improvement in filtration rate. The electrocoagulation has proven to be able to cope with almost any kind of wastewater especially in the field of low-flow or hard to bio-degrade or small space requirements.
