Carbon nanotube (CNTs) are arrangements of carbon hexagons that are formed into tiny tubes. They usually have a diameter ranging from a few angstrom to tens of nanometers and can have lenghs up to several micrometers. There are two distinct types of carbon nanotubes. The so-called single-walled carbon nanotube(SWNT) is made of one layer of graphene sheet whole the multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) consists of more than one layer. Since their discovery by Iijima, CNTs have attracted much attention and opened up a new era in material science and nanotechnology due to their fascinating and extraordinary structural, mechanical, electrical, and electrochemical properties as well as their promise in the field of materials science. Thus, carbon nanotube modified electrode has favorable properties that can catalyzed the electrochemical behavior of some substance due to the active sites being the end of the tubes. But the insolubility of CNTs in almost all solcents limits their application in the fabrication of CNTs-based electrochemical sensor. It is very interesting and full of challenge to select a kind of appropriate dispersant to fabricate CNTs-based electrochemical sensor (or CNTs-modified electrodes) for electrochemical researchers since the subtle electronic properties suggest that CNTs have the ability to promote electron tranfer.Chitosan , which is derived from chithin (a naturally occurring polysaccharide found in insects, arthropods and crustaceans) by de-acetylation, has excellent biological compatibility, and has been extensively used as modifier due to its amino groups and hydroxy groups. Besides, chitosan is a natural polymer without toxicity, using it as a dispersant is the requirement of environment of protection. On the basis of previously study, a novel chitosan-multiwall carbon nanotube (MWNT) modifier was obtained by putting MWNT into chitosan solution (0.5%), achieving a chitosan- MWCNT modified glassy carbon electrode (MC/GCE). The MC/GCE was used for the detection of some species, which not only expanded the...
