The history of the calender and design theory, its basic configuration and processing characteristics and the influencing factors are systematically reviewed.Calendering process needs high temperature which affects the quality of calendering products and its life.It will lead to flexibility distortion of roll and thickness error of the products by temperature stress arosed by the temperature difference of inner and outer roll and the bend stress and shear stress.As a result,the temperature fields is the precondition of temperature stress which is one of stress fields.The follow is rearching common rule and method of flexibility compensating.It is the last intention that heighten the quality of calendering products.It is known that the affected factors of roll thermofields are roll construction, roll heating mode, material type, calendering velocity and thickness. We can change one factor of them, at the same time maintain the other factors unchangeable by means of FEA. Then, we can explain influence degree of each factor and educe standard conclusion by analyzing the results. According to the FEA of roll stress fields, we can acquire the location and value of maximal stress and the distortion value. Furthermore, it can be used to instruct the whole designing works. Thirdly, the author made out a applycation program about flexibility compensating by the way of object oriented visual programmeing methods and validate the result in the specifical calender.
