Generally, welding is an important manufacture technology. The performance of welding is directly determined to the quality of welding, and welding residual stress determin to the welding performance, So welding residual stress directly affect the entire welding organization and performance. Welding temperature fields is the mail reason that welding residual stess appears, so the study on welding temperature fields and residual stress fields are very important. Making experament requres a lot of energy, financial resources, but numerical simulation can solve the thing.The author reviews the development course of. FEM on the temperature fields and stress fields. FEM is to the mature on numerical simulation, lots of scholars do mucn work, it is feasible by the numerical simulation behind comparing the simulation and experimental result. Using ANSYS calculate the 3D welding temperature fields and stress fields on Monel-400 alloy, then establish Monel-400 alloy cylinder finite element model and meshing.meshing adopt small size on welding, bigger size on far from welding. Body heat generation rate as a welding heat source model, using element birth and death technology simulate welding heat generation and weld metal filling. Then using thermal-stress indirect coupling, temperature result as a load about calculating stress fields, getting the stress result. And do experiment about plate butt welding, and simulate the welding course, through the two results we get the conlusions: calculating model is accurate.The paper get the termperature distribution through the cylinder rings welded temperature fields, and select two different nodes on different sections, then curve the thermal cycle about these nodes. Analysis the thermal cycles get the temperature distrbution on different nodes. Then calculate the stress by temperature fields'calculating result, get the instantaneous equivalent stress change position on different from weld line on different time. Then select two different positions sections, establish eight paths on two different sections, analysis the four paths radial residual stress, axial residual stress, hoop residual stress, equivalent stress.we can get the changes rule of stress fields on different sections: Radial residual stress is the smallest, hoop residual stress is the highest, the maxmum reach to 223MPa.
