The paper has introduced property, carcinogenicity, origin anddistribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs), and the study statusand the trace analysis method of PAHs were contained as well. The PAHs which are 16 priority PAHs listed by US EnvironmentalProtection Agency (EPA) were used as the goal pollutant in order to study thespecies and content of PAHs in water and the sediment of the HongFeng Lake.The result showed that the HongFeng Lake had been polluted by PAHs andthe PAHs' content had reached the Ecology Toxic Standard. Some of PAHshas harmed the biology in the water and brought potential danger when thewater and the biology were digested. It should be attached importance to theproblem by associated department. In the article, the main source of PAHs in the water and the sediment ofthe HongFeng Lake were estimated by the Characteristic-Ratio method.From the results, the main source of PAHs were the produce of burning matterat high temperature, such as the combustion of mineral and fossil fuel, vehicleemission, exhaust gas of burning rock oil, liquid waste. PAHs were pretreated with liquid-liquid extraction(LLE) and solid-phasemicroextraction(SPME) in the water. PAHs were pretreated with soxhletextraction(SE) and ultrasonic extraction(UE) in the sediment. After PAHswere pretreated, the simple of PAHs were injected into the gas chromatogramin order to get the species and content of PAHs. Not only each of resultswith the different methods had been analysed and appraised but also the totalPAHs concentrations had been compared with the single PAHs concentrationand the routine indexes of COD,BOD respectively. The result of analysisindicated that benzopyrene possessed better linear relationship with the totalPAHs concentrations thus being the representatives of PAHs pollution ofwaters. But there was no relativity between COD, BOD and the total PAHsconcentrations, therefore it could not reflect the status of PAHs pollution. Itneed add either monitor of organics or some toxicity experiments. The analytic data of the article fill a vacancy in the data on PAHspollution of the HongFeng Lake. The result has provided indispensablescientific arguments for management measure and region environmentalplanning are constituted by government and associated environmentalprotection department.
