Pueraria is the earthnut of leguminous plant, Pueraria Lobata Ohwi. A lot of studies indicated that functional health care ingredients were found in Pueraria, such as cellulose, alkaloid, daidzein, daidzin, Puerarin, and so on. However, it hasn't been reported about that health care function of Pueraria dietary fiber (DF) for utilization. The function was investigated with the Pueraria dregs from which starch had been separated and DF processed by enzyme-method and chemical-method, using test materials of Kudzu plucked in YueYang. The samples were prepared to the concentrations of 3.9g/kg body weight(BW), 7.8g/kgBW, 15.6g/kgBW, and blank comparison group, model comparison group were also set up in the experiments. The results were shown as follows:The digestion-absorption function was investigated by measuring the feeding weight, the alimental using coefficient, the alvine advance rate and the alvine absorbing of the mice. The results showed that the middle and high concentrations of Pueraria DF could significantly promote the feeding quantity and the body weight of mice (p<0.01) and the middle concentration of DF1 (DF1: DF processed by emzyme-method)could obviously enhance the alimental using coefficient (p<0.05) as compared with the control group. The middle and high concentrations of DF1 and the middle concentrations of DF2(DF2: DF processed by chemical-method)could significantly facilitate the alvine advancing rate (p<0.01) and significantly improve the alvine absorbing function. It is concluded that the Pueraria DF could promote the normal growth of mice.Influences of DF on the hyperglycemia mice were evaluated by the indices of the blood sugar value and the endurance of hyperglycemia mice duo to alloxan. After perfusing DF for 72 hours, the blood sugar of the mice declined but not salient (p>0.05), as compared with model comparison group; for 6 days, the middle and high concentrations of DF1, and Pueraria dregs could obviously decline the blood sugar of the mice (p<0.05); for 17 days, the blood sugar of all groups except DF2 declined remarkably (p<0.01) and returned to normal by and large. This suggested that diabetes caused by alloxan could be prevented and cured, and the endurance of hyperglycemia mice due to alloxan could be improved by intaking Pueraria DF.
