For the scale-up of solid-liquid stirred tank, it is important to study the velocity distributions for both solid and liquid in the stirred tank, and then to investigate the influence of dense particle concentration on liquid velocity distribution.The local liquid velocities were determined by a bi-electrode electric conductivity probe in a solid-liquid suspension system. The experimental investigation was carried out in a full baffled, flat bottom, cylindrical vessel , with 476mm diameter, equipped with a new type propeller(CBYIII) to push the water downward. Glassed-beads (ρ p=2500kg/m3,dp=50~150 μ m) was chosen as the dispersed phase. The maximum particle volumetric concentration was 55%.The liquid velocity distributions were measured at the different location, in the jet flow region, the wall region with the solid volumetric concentration being 0 and 15% to explore the effect of particles on liquid...
