In order to investigate the relation between the structure and property of the pyridinecarboxaldehyde N-oxide Schiff base and its complexs, four complexs had been synthesized and their crystal structures had been determined. 1 A mixed-valence copper chain polymer has been synthesized by solvothermal treatment of 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde N-oxide isonictinyl hydrazine with cuprous iodide. The two dinuclear copper units are linked by two iodine bridges. Moreover, the oxygen on the 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde's nitrogen were off, in the form of deprotonated 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde isonictinyl hydrazine to coordinated to copper atoms. And the reaction mechanism has been study. 2 A zinc(II) complex salt [Zn(H2O)6]·(ClO4)2(L2)4, where L2 is derived from 2-picolinaldehyde N-oxide with semicarbazone has been prepared and structurally characterized by X-ray. There exist a lot of H bonds in the structure, linking the cation [Zn(H2O)6]2+, anion ClO4-and L2 to form a 2D network. 3 A nickel(II) complex [Ni(L3)2](NO3)2, where L3 is derived from 2-picolinaldehyde N-oxide with thiosemicarbazone has been prepared and structurally characterized by X-ray. And its inhibiting effect to golden staphylococcus and coliform bacillus were investigated. 4 The crystal structure of [Zn(L4)2](ClO4)2·H2O, where L4 is derived from 2-picolinaldehyde with semicarbazone has been reported here. In the crystal structure, Zn2+ cation is coordinated by two approximatively perpendicular neutral ligands to form a distorted octahedral structure.
