Based on literature researching, this study focused on V2O5 catalysis for environment friendly oxidation of alcohols and for substitution of noble metal catalysts. The effect of V2O5 catalysis was similar as one of some noble metal materials by means of comparison and optimization about preparation of the catalysts, solvents, additives, reaction temperatures etc. The research aim about substitution of noble metal materials to common transitional metal oxides had been reached on the whole. Application areas about V2O5 catalyst and ways of alcohol oxidation have a little been extended by our research. The research includes: (1) preparing the catalysts of vanadium oxide in three ways, and test its activity to oxidation of alcohol. (2) Reviewing the infection of additives (H3PO4, H2SO4, p-Toluene sulphonic acid) with oxidation of 4 kinds of alcohol (benzyl alcohol, fatty primary alcohol, second alcohol and allyl alcohol). (3) Basing on the preceding research, the mechanism of oxidation of alcohol in neutral or acidic condition was conceived, and it has been tested principiumly. The research can be concluded as following. 1. Benzyl alcohol, second alcohol and allyl alcohol can be V2O5 catalytic oxidized by atmospheric oxygen in the neuter liquid-phase condition, but fatty primary alcohol can not be oxidized in such condition. All kinds of these kindsof alcohol can be oxidized under acidic condition. 2. Base on the analyzing of conversion and selectivity, oxidation of primary alcohols has been fund involving two steps. First, alcohol converts into aldehyde, selectivity 100%, yield in 94%. Second, aldehyde converts into acid, yield in 91%. 3. The regulation of oxidation of primary alcohol is that, it is fast at the first 2 hours, reaching 95%conversion. After that, aldehyde deeply converts into acid. Its velocity slows down. The reaction can be finished in 10 hours. The regulation of oxidation of second alcohol is that, it is only needs 2-4 hours to finish the oxidation of secondary alcohols. Ketone is the only produce, which yield in 92%. 4. The mechanism of oxidation of alcohol in neutral or acid condition was conceived.
