The Horizontal Continuous Casting technology is one kind of new craft in the iron and steel industry field, used to product blank in the copper alloy material castingdomain the recent development on last century 50's later period, and is studied to castthe blank of copper alloy in last century 70's, but it is used in actual production application on scale until the 90's initial period. Because the copper alloy material blank has many advantages via horizontal continuous casting, such as the crystal grain tiny, the direct cold rolling processing, less equipment invests and environmental pollution, shorter period of construction cycle and technical process, quickly effective, energy conseration, flexibly producting, high rate of finished products , the lower production cost, the better economic efficiency etc. It's the low cost and fast production method using in current production enterprise at home and abroad, and used on the large-scale . But utility time of this technology is not long at home, in addition, the majority of equipment is two-hand at home, and the craft technology was not introduced with it, so the people's understanding is limited to cast the copper alloy blank using the horizontal continuous casting method, the basic data lacks extremely, the copper alloy materials blank's quality is unstable, more than all, the research to the key component Graphite Crystallizer is insufficient, it affected the application of horizontal continuous casting in a certain. In this paper, the working principle of Horizontal Continuous Casting for casting copper alloy blank is systematically analyzed, the educts on the surface of Graphite Crystallizer is identified during the Horizontal Continuous Casting of brass using X-ray diffraction, analyze the cause of affecting the blank quality and graphite crystallizer's failure, and raise mounting gas protection system in Graphite Crystallizer based on them, reduce the reaction of open air to metal and the attachments on the surface of Graphite Crystallizer. The appropriate parameter about gas type, capacity and pressure was found, Through the experimental study to the gas protection, thus the friction is reduced during the blank casting , and lengthens the service life of graphite crystallizer.The research results show that: (1) Brass is a binary alloy of copper and zinc, because its casting temperature is high, the freezing temperature of brass and zinc is different, it is inevitable to produce educts that adhere to the graphite crystallizer's surface during the solidification. (2) The key factor influencing graphite crystallizerservice life is the attachments of crystallizer graphite internal surface, the mixture is mainly composed of Zn and ZnO by analysis of X-ray diffraction .(3) The plan is determined using the gas protection to cast, through the research to the mechanism of Horizontal Continuous Casting of brass slab, and the analysis of the reason which attachments produce in the graphite internal surface. (4) Through the engineer testing the scene and the cost accounting, the nitrogen is determined to carry on the gas protection, the empirical design is carried on to the structure of the gas protection system, and solved the connection between the graphite crystallizer gas's pipeline with exterior source. (5) The test is carried on in the different current capacity and the pressure of the gas protection system in a production cycle, and appropriate craft parameter is found.The research indicates it has a certain economic value that casts brass slab by the Horizontal Continuous Casting method with gas protection system, may enhance graphite crystallizer's life, reduces the production cost effectively, satisfy requests casting brass slab.
