Visual parametric CAD is the center problem of computer aided design. It is an interdisciplinary research area and an important computer application in production. It a software developing topic which can help shorten the period of furniture design and production, improve the quality of the designed product, cut down its cost, meet the increasing demand of the consumer market and increase the competitive ability of the product. The thesis elaborates the newest software engineering method used by a certain furniture enterprise in the exploring process of visual parametric supplementary design system. Based on the general use of multi-skills, a frame structure is provided which ensures the realization of the system. So the software developing method and the design idea are of great academic value and applicable to the research and development of CAD, its developing idea being suitable and helpful to other products' design and other craftwork's design.The paper elaborates on how to make use of Solidworks 3D software, to adopt the modeling method based on character modeling to conduct 3d modeling for furniture products. The method and steps taken are supplied and Solidworks software's secondary development based on VB is explained.The calculation put forward in the system that helps realizes the best computer cutting plan for both one and two dimensions allows an enterprise to make efficient use of its materials, the enterprise's productive level and productive speed efficiently improved and human cost and material cost reduced thus an orderly and flexible production management arrived at.The application practice indicates that plank furniture's visual parametric CAD design and its quoted price system allows an individual worker to finish the design of furniture sizes and structure without having to remember or consult all kinds of complex names and sizes of the parts and while choosing parts he or she may pick out what is the most appropriate. The system also provides its users with the function of choosing parts according to sizes. When a part chosen by a consumer does not match with the structure of a cabinet, the choice is automatically cancelled. Among all kinds of sub-branch design system, the author uses the three dimensional parametric data driving method, obtaining automatically the corresponding non-drive size dada out of drive size data. As a result automatic calculation of all kinds of non-drive sizes is reached and the design speed for furniture greatly quickened. As the system can do automatic calculation, output the size list of all kinds of materials and furniture's quoted price according to the driving data of the productive technic, mistakes are reduced in furniture design, price quoting and production and the enterprise's product quality and its reputation are raised. Besides customer order management and consulting system based on Internet allows customers and departments to keep their management open about the production of an order and its consultation. The scope of enterprise management is enlarged and the personnel and management cost greatly cut down. With the system's desired purpose realized, enterprises won competition and they will proceed to create better designs.
