During the electric arc furnace steel-making process, the scrap steels are used as primary materials, and the various small amount of alloys and slag making materials are used as accessorial materials. These materials are melted in electric arc furnace to produce temperature and composition qualified steel. The heat energy used during melting period mainly comes from the electricity energy, also, including the energy which is released during the oxygen blowing and oxidation process.Based on the large amount of internal and external references, this thesis summarizes the craft, the equipments, development history, present research status and future trend of steel-making using Electric arc furnace. The electric arc furnace energy input is analyzed and the electric arc furnace energy balance model is established on the ground of optimizing works for 70 tons electric arc furnace in Luoyang Zhongxin heavy working steel Ltd. These models include energy requirement model, energy consume model, energy wastage model. The energy requirement model is made up of oxygen blowing and electric energy model. After achieving the total energy input volume, the voltage and electric current input during each melting stage can be calculated based on the electric energy requirements of the different stage according to the model. Firstly, based on the energy condition in furnace, the melting course of the four stages during the melting period is evaluated in this thesis. The temperature and composition of steel are estimated using the neural network method according to requirement of steel-making techniques. One forecast model is established and calculated to fulfill this purpose. Then, a novel energy input strategy is developed from the theoretic point owing to the limitation about the power supply calculation summarized from the optimizing work for Luoyang Zhongxin heavy working steel Ltd. company.
