The globoidal indexing cam mechanism, which consists of a driving globoidal indexing cam and driven turret with four or six cylindrical rollers was firstly designed by an American, C. N. Neklutin, in 1920s and was manufactured by his own company in series and standard. The globoidal indexing cam mechanism has been using in many kinds of automatic machinery. It has great advantage over other indexing mechanisms, such as high speed,precise index and excellent kinetics. The globoidal indexing cam mechanism, which is used to achieve the precisely changing position of ATC(Automatic tool changing),is the most important part of NC manufacture center. About the manufacturing of globoidal indexing cam, many developed countries, such as America,Russia and Switzerland have made great development. The main method is forming-method. On the other hand, the research of globoidal indexing cam in China began about 1970s and mainly focused on the simple globoidal indexing cam. Therefore, we know little about manufacturing of the globoidal indexing cam and theories of design. So far the globoidal indexing cams used by NC manufacture center in China are mainly imported. In this paper, analysis and compare of the manufacturing methods was made based on the information at home and abroad. And with the cooperating with the staff of The first machine plant, found the very manufacturing method of globoidal indexing cam used by NC manufacture center is the combination of forming-method and double envelop. An imitation program was written. The motion and meshing process of the globoidal indexing cam can be observed by running the imitation program. Meanwhile, the database of the meshing of the rollers fixed on the turret and the profile of the globoidal indexing cam can be obtained. After setting the coordination of globoidal indexing cam mechanism, the tool path can be programmed. The program can develop two results, one is a file of the angle displacement of the cam and the tool; the other is a cartoon of the tool path.
