Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) are part of the persistent organic pollutants. They can enter human body through food, accumulate in body and lead to diseases. So the analysis of OCPs in biological samples, specifically food has been paid high attention by all countries. In this paper, an accurate analysis method for the trace OCPs in seafood, such as fish and scashell, was investigated systematically in order to improve the traditional techniques. The pretreatment of seafood samples was also discussed, and an accurate GC-ECD method that simultaneously determinates sixteen OCPs was set up.During the pretreatment, extraction of OCPs was carried out by accelerated solvent extraction (ASE), and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) combined with solid-phase extraction was used to clean up the extract. The effects of various operating parameters, i.e. temperature of extraction, number of static cycles on the ASE efficiency were investigated. The efficiency of ASE was compared with that of Soxhlet. The result showed that the efficiency of ASE was equivalent to Soxhlet but its extraction time and solvent volume were less than that of Soxhlet. The optimal conditions of GPC and SPE for cleanup were also studied. Average recoveries obtained by this pretreatment ranged from 80.8% to 109.6%, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) for the recovery ranged from 1.2% to 14.0%.
