To develop a new multifunctional papermaking additive and apply it to productive practice, the application of different charge density cationic polyvinylformamide in papermaking industry was studied. Effects of the amount of catalyzer and sample, distilling volume and the method of titration on the results of determination by the method of Kai's fixed nitrogen were investigated firstly and the effects of absorption of CPNVF on woody pulp, reedy pulp, wheat straw pulp and recycled pulp by the method of Kai's fixed nitrogen were studied. The results indicated that CPNVF had the preferable effects of absorption on the pulp fiber. In chapter 3, the effects of CPNVF on improvement of paper dry and wet strength were studied. The results showed that the effect of high charge density CPNVF on improvement of paper strength is better than low charge density and the effect of CPNVF on improvement of paper wet strength is better than paper dry strength. In chapter 4, the effects of PVAm on paper strength, drainage and retention of grass pulp were investigated. The results indicated that PVAm had the preferable effects on paper strength, drainage and retention of grass pulp and exhibited better function on reedy pulp than on wheat straw pulp. So CPNVF is an effective additive for materials used for papermaking industry in China.
