Interesting in phthalocyanines modified by different substituents is growing in many fields such as organic nonlinear optical material, photoconducting device, and photodynamic therapy. Polymer support method is one of methods to synthesize these complexes. At the same time, the phthalocyanine-bonded polymer can be also used as the stationary phase for HPLC, and as catalyst. Two phthalonitrile-bonded and seven phthalocyanine-bonded silica gel were prepared and characterized by element analysis, IR, UV/vis, specific area, and thermal analysis. The phthalonitrile-bonded and phthalocyanine-bonded silica gel were used as stationary phase of HPLC. Using these stationary phases, some mixtures of phthalocyanines including mixtures of structural isomers were analyzed. The results showed that, for the HPLC analysis of aromatic compounds, these phases are all better than non-modified silica gel phase, and for separation of the phthalocyanine mixtures, even better than the commercial C18 phase. By hydrolyzing of bonded phthalocyanines from silica gel, seven amphiphilic substituted phthalocyanines were obtained and their spectra were studied. The presence of A2B2 type phthalocyanine implied that the precursors bonded on the surface can condense themselves.
