By the end of 2004, there are 3.42 million kilometers course of the freeway in China. The planed freeway net will reach 8.5 million kilometers. In addition to the high-speed development of traffic, the adverse effects also simultaneously occur. For example, freeway surface runoff is formed the role from rain washes freeway, which introduce sediment to the runoff. With the cause of freeway continuously increasing, it is significant for the protection of natural environment alone with the freeway to take effective actions to control runoff pollutant.During the experiment, firstly we have been inspected the quality of runoff from Xiyan freeway for two years. The result indicates the SS is the acquiring serious pollutant following by COD. Due to the low concentration of Pb and Zn, they belongs to non-contaminative element. With respect to the characteristic of runoff quality from Xiyan freeway, oxidizing pond to treat runoff is suggested, with static experiment and academic analysis. These results can provide technical information and designing parameters for environmental administration to improve the process design of oxidizing pond, the reference to control non-point source pollution, scientific data and basis to realize harmonious development between freeway construction and environmental protection, and to assess the impaction of water environment to freeway construction.
