Applications of NC Flame Pipe Cutting Machine has replaced some former procedures, for example: manual lofting, making master plate afterwards hand cutting, fitting regrinding etc., greatly raises production efficiency and cutting quality. The machines are badly needed in market.In order to solve the problem mentioned above, it is necessary to develop a numerical control system of Pipe Cutting Machine which has high performance, full functions and low price. This paper puts forward an open NC system design precept based on industrial PC, Windows operating system and PMAC which acts as motion control card. The NC system is developed by Visual C++6.0.It can realize five axes simultaneous moving , compensate the error after measure or do it on line without former measure which greatly increase the machining precision. The system is easy to operate and can cut all kind of circular pipe. The paper describes the method of compensating cutting pipe error , the design of the machine, the compose of the hardware in NC system, the NC program flow and its realization ,and how to write motion control programs in PMAC etc. PCOMM32PRO , the latest PMAC'S driver functions library which is provided by Delta Tau Inc in USA, is used in programming. The method of communication by ActiveX Control is replaced by the method of communication by functions. As a result, it has used less functions than anticipation, and has avoided some limits in programming while the system built has reliable stabilization and the velocity of communication between PC and PMAC is high enough to satisfy the require of cutting.
