It is well known that high-performance ductile thermoplastics, such as polysulfone (PS), Polyethersulfone(PES), poly(etherether ketone(PEEK), polyether imide(PEI) etc. could be used to improve the toughness of epoxy resin without significant sacrifice of mechanical properties at high temperature. In this thesis, the progress on modification of epoxy resin was reviewed, and the influence of curing conditions and arts and crafts on the properties of cured epoxy resin was investigated. The epoxy resin used is D.E.R.331 epoxy resin, and the curing agent is 4.4'-diaminodiphenylsulfone(DDS). Furthermore . the microstructure of cured epoxy resin was explored by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and the relationship between the microstructure of cured epoxy resin and the curing conditions , arts and crafts was discussed. It was found that the PES had remarkably toughening effect on the tested epoxy resin system.
