Traveling magnetic field casting is a new type casting technology, which utilize electro magnetic field produced by AC putted in linear motor to make electromagnetic force in melting metal in thin-section mold cavity, to improve molding-filling head and form thin-section aluminum alloy castings. This technology can greatly improve mold-filling capacity then produce high qualitative thin-section castings which can not be produced by traditional casting. The equipment of traveling magnetic field casting is very simple, compared with special casting process such as die casting, it doesn't need big complex machine to make pressure or huge weight to lock, only needs traveling magnetic field inductor as large as mold——linear motor being stator, melt metal being the rotor. Putting in AC to produce traveling magnetic field, push melt metal ahead by the established way and produce eddy current in the melt metal, stir melt metal during solidification then refine grain. Using traveling magnetic field which produced by homemade linear motor to study the influence on 6063 and ZL102 aluminum alloy's mold-filling capacities, mechanical properties and microstructures. Plaster molds are used in forming experiments and L9(34) orthogonal experiment is used to get the plaster mixture's best proportion: plaster:silica =1:1, water quality is 7/6 of plaster's, quality of MgSO4 is 16.67% of plaster's, the quality of C8H18O is 0.1% of water's, bake scheme is: 90℃×8h→150℃×4h→250℃×2h→350℃×2h,then furnace cooling. The results show that under traveling magnetic field, aluminum alloy's mold-filling capacity and mechanical property are improved obviously, so figuration is feasible. Under traveling magnetic field casting, using stainless steel as bottom mold, when voltage is between 220V-235V, adaptive magnetic field can be produced, mold-filling is perfect and mechanical property is the best. Furthermore, traveling magnetic field can refine grains to 6063 and ZL102 aluminum alloy and can improve microstructures; under the traveling magnetic field, with the voltage's and magnetic field's increasing, 6063 aluminum alloy's microstructure occur the mutative rule: anomalistic dendrite structures→ immature rosette→ mature rosette→ fine granular. On the other hand, ZL102 aluminum alloy's microstructure has been changed: lumpish primary silicon are broken up, coarse acicular and lumpish eutectic silicon turn into fine granular; attain the effect of modifying and fining; dendrite α(Al) been broken up and turn into non-dendrite basically, some have been melt to rosette and compositions are homogeneous; when the voltage is 220V, the microstructure of casting bottom present the best fine granular eutectic silicon. Under traveling magnetic field, casting ZL102 aluminum alloy thin-section castings' best process is: using stainless steel as bottom mold, voltage is between 220V-235V.
