It is indicated that the performances of automobile can be improved greatly by reducing its weight. Therefore, the lightweight of vehicle body becomes the trend for automobiles. The lightweight of vehicle body is achieved by using nonferrous metal materials such as aluminum alloys, which cannot be welded by traditional welding techniques. Experiments show that Self-Piercing Riveting (SPR) is better than spot welding with regard to static strength and fatigue strength for aluminum alloys joining, SPR has a prominent application. SPR needs not to punch or drill holes when riveting and can finish punch and riveting at one time, which is suitable for vehicle body manufacturing. However, the research on SPR Machine is a blank in our country at present. The thesis is aimed to design of SPR Machine for semi-tubular SPR process by combining the theory of SPR and experiment results. Firstly, the maximum of riveting stress of SPR was obtained from the experiment of semi-tubular riveting, Secondly, the hydraulic cylinder recording to the system pressure and the requirement of SPR Machine was designed and the strength was verified with elastic-plastic mechanics and experienced formula; Thirdly, the hydraulic drive system and electronic control system for SPR Machine was designed; Finally, the C-frame of semi-tubular SPR Machine for SPR was design and analyzed in respect of strength and stiffness with ANSYS software to ensure the rationalization. In addition, the suspending construction for SPR Machine was designed.
