The effective application of cold flow improver for diesel fuel was studied in this paper. Based on the review of the research status in the word, the development trend and the action mechanism of cold flow improver for diesel fuel, the factors which affect the sensitivity of cold flow improver for diesel fuel, were theoretically analyzed. In order to investigate the sensitivity of cold flow improver for diesel fuel, Nanyang, Yanhua and Shengli diesel with several kinds of commonly used cold flow improvers such as T1804, T1805 and PAE etc. were chosen for the experimental study. The experiment results show that the types of the cold flow improvers and diesel fuels, oil temperature, the content of water in diesel fuel, the amount of the additives, the viscosity of diesel fuel and the mixed cold flow improvers can affect the sensitivity of the cold flow improver to some extent. The reason why the above respects cause to different sensitivity of cold flow improvers was analyzed. According to the results of the experiments, the cold flow improvers for diesel fuel could be effectively applied in the production of diesel, considering the matching of cold flow improver and diesel, the amount of the additives and the application of the mixed cold flow improvers. Since the poor sensitivity of cold flow improver to the diesel made from crude oil with high content of wax, Nanyang diesel fuel and PMMA were chosen to study the effective application of PMMA, modified PAMM and mixed PAMM to the diesel fuel made from crude oil with high content of wax.
