Potassium ferrate(VI) is an inorganic oxidant with strong oxidation strength, which makes it potentially useful in wastewater treatment. However, the previous preparation methods of potassium ferrate(VI) is difficult, cost is generally high, and the product is not stable. Thus, up till now it has not been produced on large scale. In this paper potassium ferrate(VI) is prepared by hypochlorite oxidation on the basis of the review of previous inventions. It is synthesized with potassium hypochlorite and ferric nitrate in the strong alkali solution. 0.3mol/L K2FeO4 solution and 38.5% K2FeO4 can be prepared in the optimal condition. On account of the decomposition of potassium hypochlorite and potassium ferrate(VI), this paper probes in the conditions improving their stability and the mathematic kinetics model of potassium ferrate(VI). ,The characterization of potassium ferrate(VI) is analyzed by product's color, titration method, spectrophotometer method, IR spectrum, X-radial diffraction and scanning electron microscope. The results show that the products contain K2FeO4. SEM reveals crystal apparent character.Landfill leachate is one of organic wastewater with high concentration and is difficult in biodegradation. In this paper, the application of potassium ferrate(VI) filtrate in landfill leachate deep treatment is studied. The removal effect of color, COD, NH3-N and Cu2+is good. The results show that landfill leachate is colorless, CODcr achieves the II -class criteria specified in the Landfill Leachate Discharge Standard and NH3-N is under 150mg/L when K2Fe04 quantity is lOOmg/L. When Cu2+ is treated by K2FeO4 and FeCl3,the removal rate of Cu"" gets 90%. The decomposition mechanism of contaminations in landfill leachate is also studied. The research indicates potassium ferrate(VI) eliminates contaminations by oxidation-coagulation, especially oxidation. The result of economic analyse proves that the cost is high when we apply potassium ferrate(VI) in landfill leachate treatment .In future, our work will focus on reducing its producing cost for the extensive application of potassium ferrate(VI).Wu Xiaoqian (environment engineering) Supervised by Professor Wang Yonghui...
