Pump House and Absorption Well System is a 3D structure of intersection group .Itis difficult to analyze the stability of such system by using the traditional method ofnumerical simulation, due to its complicated geotechnical condition .Therefore, it isstill a challenging issue how to understand the stability mechanism of the systemnowdays.Based on engineering geology ,rock mass mechanics and soft rockmechanics, the mechanical behaviors of the 3D intersection structure at LiuHai wasinvestigated by means of combining experimental test with optimized excavationsequence of the structure in the thesis .X-ray and SEM was used to study the micro-mechanical behaviors of the rocksamples which were taken from the in situ of the project. It is found that thesurrounding rock is with much more expansive mineral and developed joints. From theunderground stress in situ and the classification of the rock masses, it is believed thatthe surrounding rock can be regarded to as a composition of soft rock with thecharacteristic of high stress and strong expanding .It is concluded through the failure analysis of typical zone in the project that thestability of the underground structure is significantly influenced by the followingfactors :underground stress, strength of surrounding rock mass ,and its structure, aswell as excavation sequence .Additionally, FLAC3D is also applied to investigate the stability of the undergroundvarious excavation scheme. It is presented that the distributions of displacement andstress for the project, in particular ,the distribution of stress on the top of theintersection structure is carefully discussed .Finally, it is shown that the results obtained by numerical simulation andexperimental test are very good consistent with that of measured in situ.
