The modified polyaminamide is an environmental-protecting product without free formaldehyde. It has excellent application value in paper making. The technic of preparing modified polyaminamide by melting method is studied, and the products are of good qualities. The urea modified polyaminamide resin was synthesized by melting employing adipic acid, diethy lenetriamine, epichlorohydrin and urea as staring materials. The influence of reaction temperature, reaction time on the acid number, amic number and cationic degree of product was also studied in this paper. When the material proportion is 1:1, the acid number of the product is 37.2% produced by the amidation reaction at 170℃ for 150min;the amic number of the product is 32.3% produced by deamination reaction at 125℃ for 7h and the cationic degree of the product is 50.8% produced by the crosslinking reaction at 70℃ for 70min. The apparent viscosity of product reached to 800~1500mPa-s, and the pH value of product was 6±1, and the solids content of product was 66±1%, and the T_gof product was 6.24 ℃. The number average relatively molecular mass of product was 1.55×10~4 by freezing-point depression. The structure of product was characterized by IR and HNMR spectrum. The ethanolamine modified polyaminamide resin was synthesized by melting employing adipic acid, diethy lenetriamine, epichlorohydrin ethanolamine and urea as staring materials. The influence of reaction temperature, reaction time on the acid number, amic number and cationic degree of product was also studied in this paper. When the material proportion is 2:0.6:1.4, the acid number of the product is 24.7% produced by the amidation reaction at 160℃ for 140min;the amic number of the product is 33.1% produced by deamination reaction at 125℃ for 7h and the cationic degree of the product is 14.7% produced by the crosslinking reaction at 90℃ for 80min. The apparent viscosity of product reached to 700~1200mPa-s, and the pH value of product was 4±1, and the solids content of product was 70%±l%, and the Tgof product was 4.18℃. The number average relatively molecular mass of product was 1.4×10~4 by freezing-point depression. The structure of product was characterized by IR spectrum.
