The elastic theoretical model based on plate bending theory was established forestimating rockmass displacement and deformation due to large scale underground mining insoft rock strata and BP neural network model is used to estimate correspoding parameters. The model was used to predict ground movement and deformation of four mining areasin Xiaoguanzhuang iron mine, and the theoretical values were compared with the probabilityintegral results and measured data. The agreement of the theoretical results with the fieldmeasurement shows that the model is satisfactory and the formulas abtained are valid and thiscan be effectively used for predicting the movements due to large scale undergroundexcavation in soft rock strata and it is superior to probability integral method. To prove the application and reasonableness of the engineering parameters, the fourprofiles in the district are established. And two methods are given to predict whetherunderground mining influence on main well and vice-shaft of the mine. The paper utilized the elastic-plastic finite element method to verify whether otherparameters had influence on rock mass displacement caused by underground mining. Theground subsidence for different elastic modulus, Poisson's rate, cohesion and angle of internalfriction are calculated. The results show that elastic modulus has influence while others few orno influence on the ground movement caused by underground mining. The method not only can be applied to predict rockmass movement due to large scaleunderground excavation in soft rock strata, but also rockmass movement and deformationcaused by underground mining in harder strata, so this method is worth popularation andapplication.
