China is the main toy-production and -export country in the world. The staffed toys are the traditional main products in our exportation. Aimed at the weakness of creativity in toy design, the advanced design techniques such as reverse engineering and 3-D CAD was introduced into the product development of staffed toys in this paper, and a CAD system of staffed toys, with the functions of create and digitize the 3-D model, and flatten patterns from 3-D to 2-D, was developed.Today,most toy companies in our province design the toys according to clients' pictures and patterns by traditional means, it needs longer product developing period,but can't keep all products have good quality,and the designers must have plenty experiences.The surface of staffed toy is spelled by 2-D cloth with different shapes,filling something inside,then geting its 3-D surface,which is usually the free surface,it's difficult to get the CAD model by direct means.Traditional means hasn't adapted to the scorching market competition,this paper from mud model tries it in another way:using 3-D laser scanner to get toy's CAD model;settling fallten surfaces by using mass-spring model and minimize the flexible-potential energy. Which changed the design means of staffed toys entirely, and can shorten the product developing period, improve design quality, strengthen the market competitive ability of nativet staffed toys producs.
