The process of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining is controlled by the program of CNC, but the faults of the program of CNC are often difficult to be found. So there result in possibly many problems, like collision, interference on the real machine. We can simulate machining process by the software of CNC simulator in computer before the real machine, then find possible collision, interference, the machinability of parts and the reasonability of process, and so on. This can not only reduce the trying times of cutting, but improve the rate of production and reduce the cost of production. As a kind of open system, 3-D simulation system, this system has extentivity and can be used normal the simulation of the process of CNC lathe.Setting up CNC simulating system need solve following problems: editing and translating of CNC codes, setting up of geometry model, simulating of process, detecting of collision and interference of process of CNC. This paper basically achieve general NC code translator by analyzing many NC codes many CNC systems and extracting important information from NC code;basing on the method of CSG, setting up s-D model of CNC lathe by using library functions of OpenGL;achieving the animation of CNC lathe model by using the function of swapping frame of OpenGL;studying general methods of detecting collision, basing on this and the process features CNC lathe, improving the speed of detecting by using reasonable collision method.
