The electric conductivity of binary immiscible polymer blends filled with Carbon Black (CB) was influenced by the dispersion state of CB. Studing on the effects of CB dispersion state on binary immiscible polymer blends filled with CB is helpful to the recognization of the effects of disperation state of inorganic fillers on the performances of polymer blends. Besides, characterizing on the disperation state of inorganic fillers is important to the studing on the disperation state of inorganic fillers. In this paper, CB particles were filled into several kinds of binary immiscible polymer blends in HAAKE rheometer, the dispersion states of CB particles in binary immiscible polymer blends were characterized, and the effects of CB dispersion state on the electric conductivity of binary immiscible polymer blends was studied. The dispersion states of CB in PS/PA6 blend were characterized by two different methods, and the results are the same -CB particles selectively disperse into PA6 phase. When the polarity difference of two polymers is significant, CB particles disperse into the polymer with higher polarity, but if the content of this polymer is too low, CB particles will disperse into the other polymer. When both two polymers do not have obvious polarity, CB particles disperse into the interface of the two polymers; When both two polymers have obvious polarity and the difference between them is not significant, CB particles disperse into two polymers at the same time. Results shown that CB particles prefer disperse into polymer with obvious polarity. The CB content in PA6 and the continuous state of PA6/CB are the two factors influencing the electric conductivity of PS/PA6/CB composites. Results have shown that the electric conductivity of PS/PA6/CB composites gets higher as the CB content in PA6 increase. When the CB content in PA6 keeps constant, higher continuous degree of PA6/CB phase leads to higher electric conductivity. Under the condition CB content keeping constant, the CB dispersion states decide the better morphology for the binary polymer blends filled with CB to have better electrical conductivity: When CB particles locate at the interface of two polymer components the ternary compositeshave the highest electrical conductivity when the two polymer components are co-continuous;When CB particles locate preferably in one phase, the ternary composites have the highest electrical conductivity usually when the content of polymer in which the CB particles distribute is dispersed phase.
