The syntheses and characterization of two copolymeric ligands of acrylic acid and monophenyl maleate with styrene and their RE(Ⅲ) complexes have been studied in this thesis, and a detailed investigation on the properties of macromolecular complexes with rare earth metals has been carried out as well. This paper consists of two parts as follows:1. A brief review of the study for metal macromolecular complexes(MMC) has been given.2. Two copolymers of acrylic acid and monophenyl maleate with styrene and their compounds with rare earth nitrates have been synthesized and characterized. The schemes of Li1 and Li2 anions are showed as follows:The schemes of RE-Li1 and RE-Li2 are showed respectively as follows:(RE= Eu, Tb)The carboxylic groups coordinated to rare earth ions in structure units could be in the same chain or not. These compounds have been studied by means of elemental analysis, thermal analysis, x-ray powder diffraction and IR spectra, and the fluorescence properties of them also determined. The results show that RE-PStAA and RE-PStMM are three-dimensional cross-linked macromolecules. All of them are structurally specific, insoluble in most organic solvents, thermally stable and emit intense characteristic fluorescence of rare earth metal ions and their fluorescence intensities were greatly enhanced with increasing the content of lanthanide in complexes. X-ray diffraction findings indicate that although the polymeric ligands are amorphous, but some of their macromolecular lanthanide complexes are crystalline, of which Eu-L32 belongs to a highly symmetric structure of orthorhombic quadratic system, with a =10.59±0.02 A, c =8.02 + 0.01 A;c/a=0.763.
