Diosgenin is important raw material of making steroidal medicine. The diosgenin is mass-produced as there is a heavy demand both at home and abroad. The diosgenin is obtained only from Yam and other natural plants because of the particularity of its molecular structure. Recent years, the diosgenin industry have flourish in china and have become one of major industries in the producing area of Yam. But, there are so many disadvantages in the traditional process of the diosgenin production, such as the low extraction rate of diosgenin and lots of wastewater. The diosgenin acidic wastewater causes significant damage to the surrounding population and environment.Firstly, the hydrolyzation which is the key link of the traditional process of the diosgenin production is studied. And the optimum technology parameters are obtained by orthogonal experiments. This study put the main emphasis on the methods and ways to utilizing methods of Yam as resource materials. The characteristics of the Separation of Starch Process are high extraction of diosgenin, few consumption of hydrochloric acid, large economic value and so on. Secondly, the inherent law between the cellulose and the diosgenin in the Yam is discussed in the Separation of Cellulose Process. At last, the process of fermentation through which the diosgenin wastewater converted into alcohol is studied. This process is a new way to treat the diosgenin wastewater.The innovation of the study are: (1 ) A new process which the starch is separated from Yam is obtained. The characteristics of this new process are high extraction of diosgenin, few consumption of hydrochloric acid, large economic value and so on. (2 ) The inherent law between the starch, the cellulose and the diosgenin in the Yam is explored, and the separation method is obtained.The study is funded by the Project of Shaanxi Province Key Agriculture(04K09-G15)^ the Industrialization Project of Shaanxi Province Education Office ( 04JC03 ) and Key Industry Project ofXi 'an ( GG05083 ) .The study is also warmly supported by Yangling Shanghe Ltd..
