5-hydroxytryptophan is the intermediate precursor in the biosynthesis of 5-hydroxytryptamine from the essential amino acid tryptophan, 5-hydroxytryptophan can improve the 5-hydroxytryptamine level of body, alleviate stress, help lose weight;prevent headache and alleviate insomnia symptom and so on. It is an important nerve medicament in clinic.First, the development of medicament analysis in recent years has been reported, including some methods which are widely used in medicament analysis, such as UV-Vis Spectrophotometry, fluorometry, atom absorption spectroscopy, chemiluminescence, high performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, high performance capillary electrophoresis, electrochemistry method and so on. Then the development of medicament synthesize has been introduced. Finally all the study of 5-hydroxytryptophan has been shown.Based on this, three methods including chemiluminescence, ratio differential coefficient fluorescence, single scan volt-ampere have been established and used for determining 5-hydroxytryptophan, there is no literature to be discoverd. They have well consistency with HPLC, and each has their own advantages.Because the recovery of 5-hydroxytryptophan from plant is low, and the technics is complex, the plant source is limited. Electroanalysis synthesize method has been used to transform tryptophan to 5-hydroxytryptophan. In addition, a chemical synthesize method has also been designed.
