In this paper, a new austentic high manganese steel that contained some alloyed element, such as Cr, Mo et al., has been studied and applied to produce the liner of the ball mill. The research purpose of this subject is to develop liner of ball mill with high strength and hardness, as well as excellent toughness for the Jinchuan Group Ltd. The investigations are based on the special conditions, especially on the working conditions, the needs of the capability of the ball mill and the wear-resistance analysis of the materials. In order to meet the demands of the best mechanical properties, microstructure and wear-resistance, the chemical compositions are designed, the heat treatment parameters are optimized, and the relationships of heat treatment, microstructure and the properties are disucssed. The optimization alloyed high manganest steel has been applied to produce the liners and loaded on the ball mill to examined the properties of the wear-resistance.The results show that the properties and wear-resistance of the alloysed high menganese steel are so much better that can meet the demands of the ball mills. After been heated to 600°C for 12h and to 1080°C for 2h, quenched in water, the tensile strength of 799.1 Mpa, the yield strength of 485.4 Mpa, the hardness of 217 HBS and the impact toughness of 230 J/cm~2 can been obtained. The analysis of microstructure shows that the microstructure comprises austenite and carbide. Alloyed and modified by Cr, Mo and RE, the real carbon content in austenite can be increased, and can get dipersed pellet-like carbide. For those reasons, the material's wear resistance has been increased by 15-35%. The morphologies of the wear and tear show that the milling mark is narrow and shallow, the sections of deformation are tiny and uniformity. The results of the produce experiment and the load running show that the produce processess are simple. Smelting, casting and heat treatment technic are simply mastered. The service life of the alloyed high menganese steel is more than 1.35 times of that of traditional Mnl3. The technical economical analysis showsthat the cost of the alloysed high menganese steel liner is a little higher than Mnl3, but considered with the efficiency of the mine , abrasion cost and the performance to price ratio synthetically, the alloysed high menganese steel liners have visible economical and social effects.
