In recent years, with the development of manufacturing industry, squeeze casting mould technology develops fast in the world. Squeeze casting products are widely used in the manufacture of automobile and motorcycle as well as household electric appliance industry. Meanwhile, people have a higher request on the rapidity and the rationality of squeeze casting mould design and the quality of mould products.However, squeeze casting moulds at present are still mainly manual designed and few designed by computer. Some parameters selections often depend on operator's experience, so it is very difficult to ensure the rationality of the mould structure and the stability of casting quality. This traditional design and manufacture method can hardly adapt to the request of product quality and product renewal speed. Therefore, research on squeeze casting mould CAD/CAM/CAE technology has already become an inevitable tendency of squeeze casting mould development.Compared with mould CAD and CAM technology, mould CAE technology developed much later. Though mold CAE technology has already been used in injection mould and die casting mould design recently, there are still many problems. Specially, CAE technology on squeeze casting mould develops slowly. And the research mainly concentrates on melt flowing and forming process analysis in near-closed hollow ring. Researches on control analysis about mechanism movement under satisfied processing parameters are few. As we know, squeeze casting mould usually has a complex structure and massive components. It is very easy to cause interference if designed improperly. Therefore, mould assemblability evaluation is necessary.In this paper, structure and components design methods of squeeze casting mould are analyzed as well as the mould motion characteristic. Modeling and simulation methods based on UG are introduced following. By establishing assembly models of squeeze casting moulds with different moving types and proceeding the 3D motion simulation of mould-opening, mould-unloading and mould-closing based on UG, the interferences between the mould parts are checked. According to interferencechecking results, the mould structures are corrected. The practice of 3D motion simulation is pleased and achieves the desired results. The results show that, through the 3D motion simulation, design errors can be discovered early, design efficiency enhanced and design cost reduced effectively.Because research time and the theory technical level are limited, the research on 3D motion simulation of squeeze casting mould is quite superficial. Correlative work should be deepened, and the simulation technology waits for further improvement and consummation.
